“DAYS” Head Writing Switch: Josh Griffith Out, Ryan Quan Joins Dena Higley at Helm

“Days of our Lives” has made a head writing switch. Josh Griffith, who joined the soap in February 2015 as co-head writer with Dena Higley, is out. He is being replaced by Ryan Quan, who’ll join Higley at the soap’s helm.

Soap Opera Digest first reported the news, which was quickly confirmed by the show. “Days of our Lives is pleased to announce that staff writer Ryan Quan has joined co-head writer Dena Higley to form a new head writing team. Josh Griffith has left the show to pursue other projects and interests, and we wish him the best,” said “DAYS” in a statement.

Together, Griffith and Higley played a huge role in “DAYS” renewal on February 11, 2016, which ensures the soap runs through September 2017 and might include an option for an additional year. They steered the show to ratings highs. For the week of November 2-6, 2015, “DAYS” achieved a 20-month high (2.721 million viewers) and its largest audience since the week of February 17-21, 2014 (2.836 million). Two months later, the week of January 4-8, the soap went on to top that when it garnered 2.914 million viewers, their largest audience in two years, since January 2014.

Quan, who replaces Griffith, began his career as a script typist at “Passions” in 1999. He became a writer’s assistant at “DAYS” in 2008 before being promoted to associate head writer in 2012.
