Maurice broke the news on Twitter late last night and within minutes his fans were tweeting many messages of congrats and happiness that he is staying.

Maurice is old school but not ancient history. He IS every bit the veteran on this show, having given hours of hard work to it over 20 years. He has loyal, interested, passionate fans who stick with him...and they are many. The show knows it, he knows it, and most of all, the fans know it. Except for fans of pairings only, we Sonny fans have kept the fires lit and backed our man regardless of what became the norm for him, some really tough nasty writing that most actors would succumb to on a soap over time. Not our guy, he ran with it and convinced fans that it was worth watching because Sonny cared.

Fans of Sonny see two things in the writing now for him...one good and one bad. The good is that Sonny is no longer written as a dark, constantly agonized BAD mobster. He has been given more of a soul, where he may still be of a violent nature but he has balance and THINKS things through. Sometimes his motive still defeats his common sense like last week, but Sonny is now ALLOWED to care and share more with his family. The bad part...Sonny has no love life, no professional forward progress and is in limbo. Hopefully now that Maurice has signed, that will change.

This post is not about story line today, because right now you could fit it in a thimble...can you say...AJ, Connie? Most Sonny fans I talk to hate it and long for something new and Sonny driven. They want Kate back so Sonny has a loving woman in his life not a sex driven loud mouth. They want a formidable business enemy, not a whimpy loser who is more about ELQ than Sonny or Michael.

So, let's use this post to congratulate ourselves and Maurice for remaining loyal to his "family" as he puts it, until the end. The way this show is being written, one has to really admire his loyalty. And for those usual baiters, Maurice has many other options, but he loves his character and his fans.
