writing. By the end of his reign I was sick to death of all of them. A good soap is about balance -- you can't have the same characters featured EVERY day, and ALWAYS win in every situation, and NEVER pay for anything, and ALWAYS be propped up and beloved by all the other characters.

There's no drama in that. It gets boring, even if they are characters you love.
