Run for president in my lifetime. I'd love to see a woman (of the non tea party type) or Hispanic become the next POTUS.
It's hopeful with the changing demographics of this country.
But I think we as a country need to work on not only getting passed our country's atrocious history of group oppression and discrimination and learning from it through honest dialogue but also getting passed this defeatist attitude.
I will NEVER tell my son or daughter he/she could never be president because of racism and discrimination in this country. They have a greater chance of being who they want to become than my grandparents and their grandparents did.
With that said, I hate the notion from the right that blacks only voted for Obama because he's black. Or that Obama was only elected president out of some white guilt. I hate it when some of the left have this defeatist attitude that because he's black he could lose the election.
It just makes me want to scream. And I know I haven't articulated myself very well but the whole idea that being a minority in this country is something that should hold us back for fighting what we believe in sucks
