to bring some R voters over to the D side because the economy was tanking. After all he got a majority of the popular vote - something Clinton never managed to do despite Clinton acolytes clinging to the notion that he is the best politician to ever politic.
My take is BOTH men are talented politicians and BOTH have strengths and weaknesses. Obama is not a perfect politician but neither is Clinton despite the trend on the left that I see where he is quickly becoming the left's Reagan.
After all if he was so perfect that every politician needs to just sit at his knee and learn from the master he would have managed to pass healthcare or heck even get it out of committee, he never would have delivered a rambling keynote address at the DNC in 1988 that was roundly panned, and the house would have never flipped in 1994 under him (just like it did in 2010 under Obama).
Likewise if Obama was the perfect politician he would have managed to push healthcare through the process a lot more smoothly and he would have much much much better messaging on it, he would have done better at the first debate, and he never would have lost the house in 2010.
