In reply to: I totally get where you are both coming from...sincerely. But my question posted by Antwon
I hate seeing the spectacle of Dems getting down in the MAGA mud of name calling and sophomoric bully attacks on personal appearance. And I hate that too many Americans seem to want politicians and elected officials to provide Jerry Springer style entertainment. Meanwhile, while America is enjoying OTT reality show style Congress, serious real things are happening like the overturn of Roe vs Wade. I think we’re on the cusp of things that, until recently, we couldn’t imagine happening in America actually happening.

for you is: What should she have done? I think many (myself included)are over the "When they go low, we go high" mindset. Mind you, it's classy, appropriate, and professional. I'm just tired and over it. There are times when you have to stand up and fight fire with fire. The comment MTG made was an insult and uncalled for. I thought her clapback was masterful. It accomplished two things:

I’m not tired of Michelle Obama’s “When they go low, we go high”. I miss it. With all the things there are to criticize about MTG, I guess I wish Crockett would have clapped back with almost anything but a jab at her personal appearance. It’s just so Trumpian. And I don’t see how fighting fire with fire in this way accomplishes anything but digging the mud pit/cesspool deeper.

Is it the merch aspect that bothers you both? The clap back? Both?

Both. Since the whole incident bothers me, instantly turning it into fundraising merchandise bothers me even more.

It is unfortunate that this is state Congress is in--but we arrived here a bit ago. Unless there is a leader in charge to hold everyone accountable and people behave professionally--it won't get better. If I were Comer do you know what I would have done? I would have announced to MTG that she is now excused from the meeting and she can either leave voluntarily or she will be escorted out.

I would like to have seen that happen.

That way you send a message what will not be tolerated and show the consequences. Bonus: It would be embarrassing to see her escorted out. And I know it would be unprecedented but she was being disruptive. Remove the distraction.

I agree.

I understand that the situation is bad. But if we think the only logical tactic to respond with is to act just like them, we all just get buried deeper and deeper in the muck. I’m just not entertained. I’m disgusted.
