campaigns nowhere near my polling location, sometimes out of state. Most of the time I don’t mail it in. I give it to someone I trust (like my sister) to drop off at my polling place on Election Day. In NY, they don’t start counting absentee ballots until after Election Day so there’s no reason to get it in early. Then I track the status of my ballot online at the NYC Board of Elections website to make sure it was received and counted and there were no problems with it.
I worked the 2016 election at a polling place. There was a big turnout and we pollworkers were there from 5am until midnight. No time to leave and go to my polling site early, late or in the middle of the day. There was no lull. We were swamped all day and evening. Another year, I was doorknocking in Pennsylvania and living in a hotel there for the whole week prior to Election Day.
In short, whether I’m working on a campaign or at a polling place, I’m not usually anywhere near my polling place on Election Day during voting hours.
