The reason that antiretroviral cocktails don't cure HIV/AIDS is that they only kill the active virus. They don't get the virus when it is dormant in the T cells. Scientists are trying to make synthetic plant compounds to flush the virus out of the T cells where it can be killed. It looks like they still have a long way to go, but it seems like good news.
