Yes, my mother still wanted to go. We drove down yesterday, went out for crabs, and then left this morning. (an aside, the ****ers who run the management company at the condo put up signs saying the elevators would be turned off "in the AM" which was so unspecific that I stupidly assumed that it would still be on at 9am - NOPE.)
The water was up almost to the bulkhead (wall in front of the boardwalk). I think we most likely would have been ok there, but I was worried that the flooding would go under the building into the garage and ruin my car. We had a little bit of wind driving away from the beach, and saw some flooding on the bay side, but for the most part the weather was fine coming back. And funny thing, a friend of mine called to ask my opinion about how they could get back to DC - she and a friend had taken a bus to the Eastern Shore for a weekend at an inn, and their bus back tonight was canceled. We were actually driving right by the inn so we were able to give them a ride to the Metro - I hadn't seen her in a few weeks and my mom hadn't seen her since the wedding, so it was nice to see her even if it was for only an hour!
We're hunkered down and waiting for the storm tomorrow, though apparently we need to watch the news some more because the governor is telling everyone to stay off the roads and they've closed all these governments (my husband is off work tomorrow - if I hadn't taken annual leave I would have to go in) but last I heard nothing was supposed to hit here until 6pm. We were planning on going out for a nice lunch but I guess not!
