everyone helping themselves to handfuls and never contributing. A few even had the nerve to *complain* when I was out and "helpfully" remind me to get more.
The only reason I had candy now was because I won the pumpkin full of it. I *did* have a few pieces left over from doing care packages for the nieces in college (or just out of it--I was going to do care packages for whomever was in college, but one niece finished in three years, a nephew went four and another nephew went five years, so I "rounded it up" to five years in the interest of fairness). Also, I'd brought in a bag of other leftover goodies from the care packages: a few trial-size boxes of cereal, some bags of microwave popcorn and a few packets of oatmeal. I set them on a table in the lunchroom and meant to write a note to the effect of "help yourself" or "free to a good home", then had to get back to work. When I came back a couple hours later, most of the food was gone. Good thing I didn't set the bag down by accident...
