Has the show gotten less scary, or am I just jaded now <g>?

The show has gotten less scary and I put that on the writing going with the big, long mythology arcs (angels, Heaven, Hell, end of the world, etc.). The stand alone episodes with the "monster/ghost of the week" theme was much scarier.
