marathon on AMC where they cut out most of the sex and gore and none of the high-waisted pants, so they're seriously de-fanged and not terribly scary... I'm watching them almost out of a twisted sociological fasination more than anything else, because I'd never actually seen the series, having a serious aversion to slasher flicks as a kid. I can not get over two things...
1. The fact that, in a lot of these movies, no one knows there's a Slasher going around. In the first movie they don't realize people are getting murdered all over the place until the last half hour.
2. Jason is... just a jerk.
Really, I had no idea about Jason. I thought of him as just this silent, Michael-Myers type in a hockey mask. But Michael is evil for no apparent reason and doesn't seem to have feelings, other than a desire to mess people up. I'm weirdly grossed out by Jason's capacity for human emotion because it makes his decision to randomly kill people at every turn seem like an enormous over-reaction to a bad childhood.
All that said, I find the movies weirdly entertaining both because they are SO terrible and because every other movie has someone who went on to do something else. Like last night I watched part of Part IV and saw Felicity Porter's dad and Crispin Glover bite it.
