A deductible is how much you have to pay. Lets say you have a $500 deductible on an accident/liability for your car insurance. If the cost to fix the car is %1500, you would pay $500 of it and the insurance would pay $1000.

THe same on your home insurance. We had hail damage and had to fix our roof. It cost about $6000, Our deductible was $1000 on the home. So we paid $1000 and the insurance paid $5000.

Other than that I agree, insurance is hard to understand.
