...back story:

Mom and Dad were soulmates/bestfriends/etc. Grossed us out as kids, LOL but appreciated it much more as we got older.

At age 49 Mom was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer (having never smoked) and given 3-6 months. She was so terribly ill we were terrified. She got in to an experimental drug treatment and lived seven more years.

Nine years ago next week she finally lost her valiant battle. Her death devestated all of us, but none more so than my father. Who he was died along with her.

For the past 8 years he's been alone. Never even considered dating, etc. He had a full, content life but the joy in his eyes had dulled.

Last New Years he went to a party (because at 67 the man still parties, LOL) and he met a wonderful woman. They're the same age, have similar interests and both love life. She had never been married (shocking b/c she's so wonderful) and had long ago given up all hope of finding "The One".

They began dating (weird to have your 67 year old father dating, LOL) and fell in love. They got engaged and had planned to be married next June (so that we could all be there).

However, they simply couldn't wait any longer. So last week when they were at their annual Jimmy Buffet ParrotHead convention (b/c they're both members) the got married on the beach at sunset.

They let us know a few days in advance so it wasn't a complete shock but none of us could be there :( However, thanks to modern technology we were able to Skype in for the ceremony. Hey, they're almost 70...who can blame them for not wanting to wait any longer.

I truly in my soul believe my Mom loved my Dad so much she couldn't bear to see him live the rest of his years alone, and she sent this lovely woman his way.

A lot of tears this week, but I'm so absolutely thrilled for my Dad.

Here's a pic:
