It's definitely on the fritz. It's still sending garbled messages, but now they can make out what it's sending.

It's AMAZING. V1 has been out there for nearly 47 (?) years, still going, and is outside of the solar system.

Unfortunately, neither it nor Voyager 2 (which is still fine) will reach even the (theoretical) Oort cloud for hundreds of years. But they both passed the Heliopause years ago, and are way out in interstellar space, headed to wherever.
