104 -- It's a shame Toranaga has such a dumb son since he's so smart. He's always thinking steps ahead and his son is just, not.

Yup. Although...I'm dumb so I didn't understand the trap he fell into until dad explained it. :/

105 -- Spoilers....

We watched last night :)

I watched tonight's episode earlier on Hulu. I loved getting Mariko's backstory. Her father made me think of Jaime Lanniser and the Mad King in "Game Of Thrones". And of course her husband lives but he's such a POS. I need him to die and soon.

Ugh. I had forgotten that abusive POS survived the fight in Osaka. At least he was appropriately contrite with John after his hateful abuse. Whenever he's on, I say, oh, that a$$hole. Ditto with the dude (Ishido?) who keeps trying to find ways to ruin and then kill Toranaga.

Blackthorne learning the customs of Japan and how meaningless things to him (like a dead bird) can cost someone their life. It really is a culture shock for him and hopefully he will learn how much his words carry weight now.

I remembered that that was a huge deal in the book. Yeah, he made a HUGE misstep there.

I also thought he learned the language more quickly in the book, but I could be wrong.

The earthquake was scary. I would hate to live somewhere earthquake prone. I really need Usami Fuji to be ok. She has quickly risen in my character rankings these last 2 episodes.

I know, she's so sweet and yet, fierce. So loyal. Look at the compassion she showed Mariko when John put her in a position of being shamed (another misstep) and having to tell her backstory to John. Fuji is one of my faves as well.

They did a great job with the Earthquake. I live in earthquake country (well, not Sac itself, but we're 100 miles from the San Andreas, so...) I know Japan gets it worse than us, but that temblor was really bad, maybe over 7.5.

Of course, now T owes John because he again saved his life.
