what kind of law he wants to practice. I'm not even sure how much choice he will have at the firm he will be working at. I'm almost positive it won't be some form of corporate law. Nephew has a real heart for people; not only did he do all that pro bono work while in law school, he also started a soup kitchen in one of the neighborhoods he's lived in and spent a lot of time cooking and preparing meals there. The paper he got published in the North Carolina Law Review was about better methods for dealing with people experiencing a mental health crisis; I wouldn't be surprised if that's an area he wants to focus on now that he's officially a lawyer.

Is he going to accept that job offer or stay in NC?

At this point, he fully intends to go back to NYC for the job. But I can see it depending on what his gf wants. She's just finishing up a delayed college degree herself; if she wants to stay in NC, I can see Nephew taking the NC bar exam* and staying in his home state.

* I know that once upon a time, you had to pass the bar in any state you wished to practice law in. I've heard, but am not 100% sure, that there are now states that honor the results of bar exams passed in other states, but if that's true, I don't know if NY or NC are among those states.

How is it going with winning his girlfriend back?

No clue. While I love my nephew, and he loves me, we're not great at communicating outside family gatherings, so most of what I know, I know from Sis. I met the gf at Nephew's law school graduation this year (nobody bothered to tell me who she was; I only got her name and I thought maybe she was a cousin on BIL's side of the family). She was really, really nice, and when I found out that was Nephew's gf, I was thrilled. But then she expressed concern about them having a long-distance relationship while she was still in school and he pre-emptively broke up with her. About a month later, he went on a trip to Iceland that was originally going to be a couples' trip but wound up being a solo vacation. He did some thinking, realized he wanted gf back and decided to postpone his move to NYC and work on convincing her to get back with him. I really need to find out how that's going.

Whatever he decides, congratulations to him and his proud aunt.

Thanks again--I am indeed very proud of (and a little in awe of) the "kid".
