We, my daughter and I, went to the local Sherwin Williams paint store with the sample (slabette) of granite that we like to try to find a color that matches/goes well with it. We tried multiple colors and made no progress. I, the color-blind/weak one, decided to first find a color that matches the tile or part of the tile, then looked at the color suggestions on the back of that tile. That was how we ended up with SW7011 aka "Natural Choice."

With that sample in hand, we went to Lowe's to look for a cabinet type we liked. We decided on a Kraftmaid Cherry wood flat cabinet door with a Cannon Grey color. This was after my daughter did a lot of weight lifting holding up the granite slabette next to the variants of cabinets and colors. We must have tested at least a dozen cabinet samples. She'd thought that she wanted a gray, but couldn't quite find the right version, in part because of color changes due to the grain or type of wood used. We did not try to find the hardware for the cabinets/doors. At least we'll have the cabinets right there, so we won't have to bring the slabette with us next time. I plan to return it next week. (I just weighed the slabette. It's 8 pounds 8 3/8 ounces. There's a reason we left it in the car instead of carrying it inside to carry it back outside.)

After the cabinets (we wrote the selection on the back of the sample), we looked at some shades that we'll probably have to have custom made. The windows are huge. I'm for getting a remote control for the blinds to keep them from being damaged in the future. Mentally marked that down. Then we moved to the outdoor lights with motion detectors.

Usually the lights aren't very bright, but we picked a look that we liked. One of the people working there said that we could use a bulb with higher lumens. With LED bulbs, we won't overload the outlet and could get much brighter lights when the motion detector is activated. So, we went to Walmart to buy one bulb to see if the higher lumens on our one exterior light works that way. If it does, we'll order four or five of the ones that we like.

I'm hopeful. We'll see how things go. Wish us luck.
