I am also perfectly happy to address people however they choose to be addressed. I just can’t seem to drop the sir/ma’am! But I will keep trying.
I think I’ve discussed this here before, but I once worked with a guy who came out at work as trans. He became she and began doing hair, nails, makeup and wardrobe accordingly. And I was just fine with that. But she worked in our mailroom/copy center, so we had a lot of contact. And every time she did something for me, I responded with “Thank you sir!” It was awful. I finally had to take her aside and apologize. She was totally cool about it, but I still felt awful. Change is hard sometimes!
