but several times a year, I still order things through Amazon because that's the only place I can find said item.

Kind of interesting...bff's brother recently wrote and illustrated a children's book: Harry the Horse That Could Not Hear: A Story of Hearing Loss by Michael DeMonte [link] It's based on her brother's own journey with hearing loss. Bff brought her copy to dinner the other night when we met a couple other friends, and as it's a children's book with a lot of illustrations, I quickly read it. It's a lovely book...but I'm not going to buy it because a) I don't have a child in my life to give the book to and b) $20.99 for a kid's book is way out of my price range. Bff told me I could still help her brother out by leaving a positive review on Amazon. But I didn't buy the book there, I said. She said it wasn't necessary to have purchased the book on Amazon if you want to leave a review, and when I Googled, I found that she was right.

BUT...

I went to leave a nice review on Amazon and was told I "didn't qualify" for the right to leave a review. I believe any Amazon Prime member can leave a review, and the guidelines for Amazon assured me I could leave a review if I'd spent...I think it was only $25 in a year on the site. Now I've *definitely* spent more than $25 on Amazon in 2024...but I've always gone to Giant Eagle and gotten a gift card for the amount I want to spend because it helps me save money on gas or groceries. Apparently using a gift card doesn't count towards "spending $25 at Amazon in the current year". I thought that was a little shady.
