Dad and I both used to love when Mom talked about a craft show being an "old lady" craft show, which to her usually meant crocheted dollies to hide your stacks of toilet paper <g>.

i don't have any BIG craft shows near enough to me, but we have a LOT of smaller ones. I like it when 3 or 4 are on the same day because then I can make more of day out of it. I'm usually doing that by myself, so no balancing out the day with a good meal!

That's what I like to do too. There's several in our area that I would consider somewhat "big", plus there's the IX Center Christmas Connection, which is a MASSIVE show. I've never been to it because it's $12 online admission and $14 at the door...I hope someday someone buys my admission or maybe I win tickets in a contest or something <g>. But the only big one I consider "can't miss" was last weekend's show. I prefer the smaller ones where it doesn't cost much (or anything) to get in.

I used to call the best day in retail "steady." not too busy and not too slow. busy enough to make the time pass quickly but not so busy that you're spinning in circles.

Exactly!

for me, that was one of the worst parts of retail - the loss of the traditional weekend. i had Mondays off and every other Saturday night and Sunday. even having the Sunday/Monday combo wasn't great because no one ELSE that I knew had Mondays off, and no one wanted to do anything too late on Sunday.

Yep. I told them upfront I wasn't working Sundays but that just means I'm almost guaranteed to work every Saturday. Earlier, I was often off on Monday; now I'm often scheduled for a Monday shift.

I hope you aren't too busy on Black Friday. Unfortunately, most of the women I know in the age demographic you describe love a Black Friday sale, and like getting their shopping done early. Hopefully it will be STEADY for you!

Thanks! I'm hoping that having a "Black Friday" sale all week means steady business every day, not a huge rush on Friday.

the buying is really tough. it's a lot of time and thought. I'm sure as the kids get older, we'll transition out of shopping for each other....hopefully. LOL

Fingers crossed <g>!

Nope, though the wish list continues to grow...

that's pretty much what i use my cart in Amazon for - stull I want to get, but probably won't. its in the 'save for later' part. LOL

I periodically go back and delete things that were a late night impulse add-on (a Rolling Stones greatest hits CD) or were things I eventually found in a store (a new purse). But the list is still pretty lengthy, with a few things having been languishing at the bottom of the list since 2022 (a starfish-shaped dish, a Celtic Thunder CD). Plus I delete things that are no longer available and don't look to be available any time soon.

SAME - there are at least 6 people up and down the main street near me that are fully decorated, and they just look SO nice!

I love that many in our neighborhood go ALL OUT with the outdoor holiday decorations! We're...not those people. One year--just ONE--I begged Dad to put up something, ANYTHING outside. He managed to find the saddest string of lights--all blue and green but screwed in randomly so you might have, say, three blue lights in a row, then a green, then a blue, then a couple burned out, then four green, etc.--and put it up over the garage. It was actually a little worse than having nothing up because it was so obviously (and possibly passive-aggressively) half-a$$ed.

growing up, we NEVER used to decorate until 2 weeks before xmas. it was mainly because we had a real tree and my mom didn't like clutter! when i finally got my own place, it didn't even dawn on me to put the little fake tree up ANY TIME I WANTED TO!

I keep thinking that I should just go ahead and decorate outside because while Dad would scoff and break out the annual "Jesus is the reason for the season so why bother with anything else?" lecture (it's positively tradition now), he wouldn't actively object. But then I would have to buy outdoor decorations...and put them up...and take them down in January...I'm too lazy for all that 😁
