Ok, so I get why True Crime is a problematic genre, and I have known people who have both murdered and been murdered (a guy I went to high school with is absolutely a Dateline waiting to happen, but I don't think anyone really wants a Dateline to happen to their family and I certainly wouldn't want to see it happen in this case)-- but I have developed a habit of listening to Dateline via podcast.
Dateline usually downloads on Tuesday, so I was a bit surprised to see a full episode download today and even more surprised to listen to it and find out it's, like... A Thanksgiving episode.
Specifically it's about a case in Minnesota where an older gentleman named Byron Smith murders two teenagers who break into his house on Thanksgiving.
I mean, I have seen The Ice Storm. I've also experienced the month of November. I have bleak, chilly associations with American Thanksgiving. But this seems AWFULLY dark.
(also I hope everyone's thanksgiving is actually warm and full of fun -- but your pop culture really makes it look stressful and depressing sometimes.)
