bound books that were read by future doctors, lawyers and teachers, who then used that knowledge to help their fellow man...we had an occasional day off due to bad weather. It was rare but it happened. At my next workplace, we made water softeners and purifiers that occasionally were sent to small villages in Africa, where they provided a safe, reliable source of drinking water for men, women and children...we had an occasional day off due to bad weather. At Chico's, it's rich women who come in complaining about how they already have a ton of clothes and jewelry and really don't need any more (and DIDN'T come in yesterday because they were heeding all the warnings about not going out unless they absolutely had to)...we can't close early due to bad weather? Please.

I hope you didn’t text your SM as soon as you got home. I would have waited a couple of hours and let her worry a little bit.

Oh, I did <g>. I didn't wait as long as you would've but I definitely made her sweat for a while.

It was definitely a no-brainer for your dad’s annual checkup to be rescheduled. I’m glad that happened.

It WAS a no-brainer...for you and me. Dad was seriously considering going. I live on a street that's off a street that's off of Rt. 306. Mom used to have a friend who lived on the corner of 306 and the street our street is off of. In bad weather, she would call Sally and ask how 306 was looking; if it was fine, she'd brave going out. If not, she knew to stay home. Dad was talking about driving up to 306 and checking if it was clear...and then he got the call. That was a prayer answered for me. His appointment is now January 2...the family (bad) luck says we'll probably be walloped by another snowstorm that day.

A question about your friend who got 3 feet of snow that covered the bottom half of her two-story house: How would she even get out of her house if her door is blocked by 3 feet of snow? I’ve never lived anywhere where that situation would happen. What if it stays so cold that none of it melts?

My friend's mom wasn't actually home at the time. She and my friend's sister were on the way back from Thanksgiving at the sister's house. A neighbor took the picture. Some kind soul shoveled my friend's mom's driveway so she could go and out in through the attached garage. The weather has been cold enough all week that the snow not only didn't melt, it just got deeper as we got more snow. But it's supposed to be above freezing Sunday and 50° on Monday, so that will help remove some of the snow. TBH, I'm a little concerned about the snow melting; her house is old, and she's recently spent a ton of money trying to waterproof the basement with only marginal success. I'm hoping all that melted snow doesn't wind up INSIDE her house.
