I've mentioned here before that I still like to dress up for church. I'm almost always in a dress or skirt, even in the colder months. Yesterday I had on a sweater and a knit, pull-on pencil skirt that's almost 35 years old and is one of my favorites. However, since I spent years NOT having to look nice at work, the skirt is very gently worn; I wear it maybe 5-6 times a year at most and often only for the couple hours between getting dressed for church and getting home from church.
After church, Dad and I went to a nearby Wendy's for a quick lunch. The place was busy--mostly drive-thru business, thank goodness--so I placed our order and waited near the counter to pick it up. Suddenly I felt a rustle of fabric around my knees...I looked down and yep, my skirt was on the floor. A combination of me being a little lighter than I was 35 years ago (maybe 15 pounds) and the skirt's elastic waistband being a little stretched out caused my skirt to slide right off while I was just standing there. I'm officially old because honestly? It didn't really even phase me. I just calmly bent down, picked up the skirt, slid it back up my legs and tucked the waistband into my underwear to hold it in place. I was lucky in that a) I don't think many, if ANY, people saw it happen and b) I was wearing my long winter coat rather than my short winter coat, so I was still covered down to mid-thigh or so. Which is why I can laugh about it now 😁
