I wasn't a huge Van Halen fan back in the day, but I didn't hate them either. I was a HUGE Valerie Bertanelli fan though and loved her and Eddie's romance, etc. It was a good read, but a bit strange. Mostly because he basically ends the book when David Lee Roth left the band in 1985. Weird because Alex devoted most of the book to his very close relationship with his brother Ed. Ed died 35 years after DLR left VH. That was like half of his life! He mentions Sammy Haggar when talking about the beginning formation of the band because Sammy was one of the suggestions for lead singer. Alex alludes to the fact that SH (obviously) became part of the band later....and the way he did it led one to believe that he would pick that thread back up later in the story. But nope. Dave left the band and then Alex waxes philosophically about Dave and Ed and mentions that Dave was the first person he called when Ed passed (even though they'd not really been in touch for years). And that was it. Second half of their lives together.....nada.
