But I've told the contractor to hold off installing them until Thursday because Monday through Wednesday is
tiling! The tiler brought in sixteen boxes of 18" X 18" ceramic tiles. They're stacked in the room near the windows. They'll be ready for Monday's start. I figure Monday is mostly going to be prep work, but I should have a tiled space by Wednesday evening. (What a birthday present!) So far, he seems like the best of the bunch. Very professional, true to his word, and seems to do quality work. I sent him $200 via Zelle to make sure it worked, then sent him $300 more via Zelle to pay for the first half of the job. I've paid for half the cost of the installation.
The HVAC team came this afternoon; but, they couldn't finish the installation. The mini split is mounted to the wall and does turn on and such, but there's a bit more tinkering to do to finalize the installation. They had to leave because one member of the team had to be somewhere as soon as the work day was over. They hope to be back tomorrow to finish the work. I initially told them to put the remote control cradle next the single door, on the side that opens. I later told them to put the cradle on the other side next to the hinges. I'd rather have the flat remote control for the overhead lights next to the door opening so someone entering the room can turn on the lights than have the thermostat for the mini split be there.
The replacement door is on order. Hopefully it will be here next week. The other door was "shaved down," but it still sticks. I can give them $58K reasons why it shouldn't stick at all.
I met with the contractor's subcontractor who does concrete. The subcontractor initially said he'd have an estimate done by Monday, but the contractor pushed and we may get the estimate by Friday aka tomorrow. I guess I'm being bumped to the top of the list. Saturday I'm meeting with my landscaper about doing the concrete work. I thought about calling him because of the mention of a retaining wall because of drainage plus the need to move lots of dirt despite the dirt being there since the mid to late 1990s. I'm guessing a change in code.
The other concrete guy contacted me to see if I was ready to pay him. I texted back that I was having second thoughts about hiring him and was getting other opinions and estimates.
Leaps and bounds. The job is scheduled to be done in February, but this is the nitnoid, minor closing stuff, so we may have it done much sooner. I have to keep reminding myself that we're way ahead of schedule, but the most important thing is the get this right...the first time.
