Re shipping big things via UPS, I hear you. My sister and I shipped some things back to NYC when we were selling my parents’ Florida house; some of my mom’s paintings, for example. My dad built a model of the full-rigged ship, the Danmark, which he spent part of his time in the Coast Guard on. It’s a beautiful ship and the model my dad built was beautiful too. It sat on the mantle over their fireplace for decades. My sis really wanted it. The model is maybe four feet long and has lots of sails and intricate detail. It cost her over $200 to ship it. But she insured it and it arrived damaged so UPS reimbursed the entire shipping charge. We call it the shipwreck now. It’s in her living room. But it’s not too badly damaged. We’ll probably sit down together sometime and try to repair it.
