The tile guy and his helper did the prep work on Monday. They used some leveler(?) to fill some gaps and get the cement ready for the tile to be installed.
This morning, they did what looks like red snap lines (basically straight lines of chalk on the concrete so they keep the tiles straight) and started laying the tiles. They're leaving about eight inches all around for the side tiles what will need some minor alterations to fit against the wall correctly. It gives him room to make adjustments and have it look great!
He told me yesterday that I do not need to get sealant for the grout because the grout has a sealant as part of the mixture. Saves me some money and time. I won't be crawling on the floor with a tiny bottle with a brush on the top and sealing tile. I did that in my kitchen when it was done.
He should have all the tiles installed, to include the fine cuts, by the end of the day. Tomorrow should be the grout. I think the grout has to set/dry overnight so he can do the final cleaning off of the tile on Thursday morning. It's going to be BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF the door arrives, they'll replace the kitchen door with the full length window with blinds between the two panes of glass again and hopefully get the door to close. Not sure what they're going to do about the door that hangs up at the bottom so much that I don't need to consider joining a gym.
The HVAC guys will be back next week to finish off the mini split installation. I missed their call Friday asking if they could come that afternoon to finish the work before the tile guy started on Monday. (I'd told them they could come back Friday and had left the gates open.) Oh well, I didn't check my voicemail until Saturday or Sunday. It'll all work out in the long run.
So excited about the tile work! My daughter is threatening to move back into her room. We can't really make plans about cabinets, getting furniture, or moving stuff into the space until it passes inspection.
Waiting for my landscaper to schedule a visit to discuss him possibly doing the concrete work. Also waiting for an estimate from my contractor. Maybe I'll contact my old contractor. That concrete patio is becoming a nightmare to plan, but it will be a dream when it's in place.
Wish us luck!
