checked up on the couple in
two weeks (or more). Especially now that we know GH had advanced dementia. Were there no home health care workers? No housekeepers? Did the mail pile up? GH had three children; did none of them call on a regular basis? I absolutely don't mean to imply humans aren't as important as animals but I feel the dog might've survived had the couple been found within a few days of the wife's passing 😢
All of this reminds me a little of the passing of a co-worker that I really liked. James lived by himself and died in his sleep one night. He was only in his early 50s. It happened over the weekend so he wasn't immediately missed at the bindery but he had a part-time job working at the arena where the Cavs played (think it was Gund Arena back then) and they were the ones who got worried when he missed two consecutive games.
I cannot fathom having an elderly parent with health issues and not checking in on them if not daily, then at least every other day, either in person or via a proxy even if there's a younger spouse also present :-(
