to check on them....or even like a housekeeper or cleaning lady or....someone. Very sad that he had three kids and no one in the family apparently kept in close (enough) touch to figure out that something was wrong in time to save the poor dog. And I get sad thinking about Gene possibly wandering around unaware that his wife had passed. He was alone and probably didn't know why. Just sad all around.
