I enjoyed him as Noah on GL. I knew he was on OLTL but I wasn't watching at that point. I did hear about that storyline. Oddly enough I remember him best as Heidi's husband on Home Improvement.
Guiding Light and One Life to Live Vet Mark Dobies Dead at 65
Daytime soap veteran Mark Dobies, who had extensive runs on Guiding Light and One Life to Live, has died at the age of 65. Dobies passed away on Mar. 11 in New Jersey, according to a local obituary; no cause of death has been released.
Dobies played football in college before turning to acting, joining the cast of CBS’ Guiding Light in 2000 as Noah Chase, a doctor who became a love interest for Kim Zimmer’s Reva Shayne. After a year and a half on Guiding Light, he joined the cast of ABC’s One Life to Live in 2003, playing district attorney Daniel Colson, remaining in the cast until 2005.
Dobies’ time on One Life to Live stirred up significant controversy: His character Daniel Colson married Hilary B. Smith’s Nora Buchanan, only for her to learn he was a cheater — and a murderer. He killed Paul Cramer after Cramer threatened to reveal Daniel was having an affair with a man. The portrayal of a murderous gay man led to a protest from GLAAD, who felt the storyline reinforced negative stereotypes about the LGBTQ community. But executive producer Frank Valentini stood behind the story, insisting that “this is a story about the harsher side of intolerance and about one man not being true to himself.”
Aside from his daytime work, Dobies had guest roles on Home Improvement, Melrose Place, Everybody Loves Raymond, Just Shoot Me!, Fringe and Gossip Girl. He also appeared in the 2004 off-Broadway revival of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart.
