Every year, I sweat out doing my taxes like my very life depends on it. Somewhere along the way, I developed not even a deep respect for the IRS but an outright fear of the organization and am convinced that I'm always one misplaced decimal point away from being thrown in "tax prison" for life. I blame all those TV shows where characters freak out over audits...<g>.

I'm a little late (for me) in filing this year; two things were somewhat tripping me up. First was deciding on a new tax preparing website. I mentioned last week that I was so DONE with Tax Act and needed to file with someone else. Ultimately, I went with FreeTaxUSA and was extremely pleased with how simple the process was (it'll probably be even simpler next year now that I'm in their system). And it was indeed free...which is kinda sad since you have to have a pretty low income to use their service.

I was also concerned about RITA. Not "Rita" as in "Rita Moreno" but RITA: Regional Income Tax Authority. I don't know what other states, if any, have RITA but essentially, RITA is a local tax. For years, I lived and worked in the same town, which doesn't collect RITA. After that, I lived in one town and worked in another but again, neither had the RITA (RIT?). But of course the snobby town I'm working in now has to squeeze a few more dimes out of their residents/workers. I still don't quite understand RITA...I'd initially been told that since I live in a town that doesn't collect RIT, I would NOT have to pay but my W-2 form said nuh-uh, Snobbytown (not to be confused with Snootyville, where ladyday resides <g>) wanted their cut. Makes me wonder what they're doing with those taxes and sheesh, could they at least build a parking garage so I'd have a guaranteed parking spot when I went to work?

I'm off today and tomorrow...I was supposed to go to lunch with bff but she has a nasty cold that she doesn't want to share (thank you, bff!), so I decided to stay home all day and Get Ish Done. Now that I know how much of a refund I'm getting, I'm thinking of going out tomorrow somewhere and springing for a meal slightly more expensive than McDonald's <g>.
