The boards will get quiet, then someone will point out that the boards are quiet and traffic will pick up a bit. And then we go quiet again. It's a self-perpetuating cycle :-(
I have theories...one is pretty much what chloe posted. I'd hoped people would use SZ as a fun escape and I worry that people in general--not just us here on SZ--are spending too much time thinking about the political climate these days. It's good to be informed and active when possible...it's not great, IMO, to dwell or wallow, especially on things we cannot change or control.
My other theory is simpler: message boards just aren't a thing anymore. Many people seem to prefer spending their online time on TikTok or Meta or Threads or whatever. I've noticed that posting over at Primetimer (formerly Television Without Pity) has also slowed considerably, though it's possible I just watch the wrong shows (aka not the "buzzy" ones that "everyone" is watching <g>).
And yes, I've now started wondering how many people are simply locked out of SZ and couldn't share even if they had something they wanted to share.
