were (1) a capybara toy and (2) a football.

The way the tree works is it’s decorated with QR code ornaments. Anyone who wants to participate can scan the codes and choose a child or children to buy holiday gifts for. We get the gender and age of the kid (but not their name) and their first and second choices of gifts they would like to receive. The kids are part of various Y afterschool and teen programs. I love doing this even better than something like Toys for Tots because I know I’m giving the kids gifts they will actually like.

So…my first question was: what is a capybara toy? and will I be able to find one? A quick google revealed that capybaras are hot this year and there are tons of capybara choices. A capybara is an animal (now that I think of it, there was a capybara in last year’s animated movie, Flow, which I loved) but apparently real capybaras are currently TikTok sensations. So now the question is: With so many choices, how will I pick the right capybara for this kid?

For now I’m assuming that we’re talking about stuffed plush capybaras unless I find out there are other kinds of capybara toys. My initial google came up with tons of different stuffed plush capybaras.

Do 8-yr old boys like stuffed animals? It’s been too long since the kids in my life were 8 yrs old. My youngest nephew is 23. I kind of like the idea that an 8-yr old boy asked for two things: a stuffed animal and a football! A football might be easier but I want to get him his first choice —- which is a capybara toy. Apparently, Gen Z is very into stuffed capybaras this year and Gen Z are young adults so, I’m guessing an 8 yr old boy is not too old for a stuffed animal unless he meant something else when he asked for a capybara toy.

On Wednesday when I swim, maybe I’ll pluck another kid’s ornament from the Angel Tree. I only had time to get one today.
