highly recommend it.
It’s a drama inspired by Stephanie Land's memoir “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive”. Its story focuses on a young mother who escapes an abusive relationship and struggles to provide for her daughter by getting a job cleaning houses.
It is well-written, directed and acted with very nuanced characters and relationships. Margaret Qualley is excellent as young mother Alex and was nominated for Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG awards for Lead Performance in a Limited Series. The show won a WGA award for Best Adapted Longform. It’s a very well-done story of poverty that feels very real. Alex and her 3-yr old daughter Maddy are very rootable as we watch them navigate various obstacles in life and our safety-net system striving for a better life.
