*feels* like it's realistic. I can only imagine how hectic it must get when there's ambulances bringing people in and traumas coming in and then a waiting room full of people upset that they've been there for 8 hours and not seen a doctor yet. Then Robby's got the bureaucrats of the hospital on his case while they're steadily wanting to cut costs and not fund the staff he needs.
I particularly liked the scene on the roof of Dr Abbott, the night shift senior attending passing off to Dr Robbie starting his shift at 7am.
I love Abbot. I think the show needs a spinoff that focuses on Abbot and the night shift. You know nights there has to be just as wild.
I like that some of the patient cases will carry over into subsequent episodes (because they are still there!) instead of a case a week that gets resolved.
I like that a lot, too, because some patients will spend hours there. It makes for some good arcs over the season. Like the nursing home patient you mention, that is something that plays out for several episodes.
I’ve only watched the first episode so I don’t know the characters or most of their names yet. But I’m interested in getting to know them. I’m interested in finding out exactly what happened to Dr Robbie’s mentor and why he blames himself.
I think the show does a great job of letting you get to know all the characters a little bit at a time. Since the audience doesn't follow them home or focus on their personal lives, you get things through exposition along the way but it's all done really well, IMO.
