I think we'd stay up to ring in the new year and that was about it. In the late 90s, my brother and a friend of his came to visit for NYE when I lived in DC and we ended up crashing a party at the Old Post Office Pavilion (it briefly became a Trump hotel right before he was president and is now a Waldorf Astoria hotel). I hadn't wanted to go out and was pre-gaming before friends came over and they convinced me to go; we got down there and had heard it was a free party. Well, it was not. It was a ticketed event, but the security guard told us if we came back dressed up she'd let us in. We rushed back to my place and threw on some fancier clothes and got back, and she actually let us in (I have a photo somewhere of her with us, LOL). It was some kind of fraternity or professional organization party, I don't know. We just grabbed champagne and went with it. We also got there around 11:45 so I don't think anyone really cared at that point. The previous year I'd had a party at my place and it was fine, but that was probably the only other time I celebrated NYE.
Then in 2010 my dad was buried on NYE. We had a gathering at my brother's house that night and that was about it for celebrating. Last year my brother did have some fireworks at his new place and I was there for that but that was about it. The year after my dad died I just wanted to drink and play Mario Kart - Mr. Kris and I bought extra controllers so we could play against each other, and then when we got home one of them didn't work so he basically just watched me play all night.
Anyway, long way to say that NYE is a total nothing burger for me and I don't really do anything to celebrate it.
