It's hard to leave the cottage.
Ok! I found it.
It's short, but you can hear the emotion in Jacob (the creator)'s voice.
God, I hope so, because things got really hairy for Connor yesterday the paparazzi and Twitter has gotten very weird. Yet another reason to avoid it.
Ok -- hilariously one of the reaction videos I've seen is this dude watching with this wife and his response to that was "19 seconds! Does he teach a class?" But I'm very glad they executed it the way they did because it stayed more funny than awkward.
I mean, that's what I've been doing. Ilya in particularly makes a lot of sense once you see more about where he comes from. He's also consistently very sweet. You kinda see the brash cockiness at first, but he's always really gentle with Shane when they're together and you wonder what he thought was going to happen. I think Connor cited Shane folding his clothes while they're getting undressed as the moment where Ilya fell for him.
Ok! I am here with another BTS story. So, when they shot that, the intimacy coordinator said "Do you think this is too tender?" and Jacob's response was "I don't care. I want it to exist." -- So even though it was much softer than what was intended in the script, they kept it. And I think it's so vital, honestly. You get this sense that Shane is completely blissed out and so happy, and you need that to carry you through what happens next with the olympics and Ilya shutting down so that he can win the cup to show up his father. Without that moment, I'd have a harder time with Vegas, especially the bathroom scene.
I think that's exactly it. Shane is avoiding telling him how he feels but everything he is DOING screams "I'm in love with you" -- from inviting him to the cottage to everything he does to take are of Ilya while he's there. Then, taking on Ilya's problems with his citizenship and figuring out this plan that assumes they're going to be together -- No wonder Ilya snaps, but as Hudson said, Shane was telling him how he felt with everything he was doing. Ilya just finally said it.
To be fair, Shane has freaked out before, but he looks so happy in that moment. I still get why Ilya is suddenly like "oh god. was that a good thing to say?"
They will definitely have some shots of it online, I'm sure. It's a gorgeous shot.
So true. And Shane is not easy. I don't think he knows what to tell someone to do to support him. Ilya just seems to have figured out how to respond to him when he gets like this. And Shane is finally comfortable enough to let him do it.
I love the exchange with Yuna where she says "you've been in love since your rookie year?"
"No, no. No no no no no."
And then Ilya, having learned he can't say "lovers" can't figure out how to explain what was going on so he's just gesturing with his hand and Shane looks like he wants the floor to open up and swallow him. It's so weirdly funny.
The dad feels like random casting, since he's from Nip/Tuck and he's American, but I thought he was very good. Particularly in episode 6.
The more I think about it, the more I love that, because Shane is odd and they know he's kinda solitary and struggles to connect with people -- his being a hockey player is probably the number one thing that has given him any social life at all because he's so insular. So for them to see that Ilya understands Shane, knows how to help him and WANTS to help him... I love that they get to see that. They really get to see that their son has the kind of love they want for him.
And, ok, didn't expect it to be Ilya Rozanov, but we will make it work.
Yeah, I get it. I am truly having to FORCE myself to watch other things. Mostly unsuccessfully.
