I still dread doing mine every year and refuse to even look at the various tax forms (other than a cursory glance to ensure they're correct and what I need) before the beginning of March at the earliest. However, I have the luxury of doing so as my taxes are relatively straightforward and simple. Your method of doing them twice before actually filing sounds smart!
