Not here - I mostly mean Twitter. The absolute firestorm of hatred being aimed at multiple disenfranchised minority communities, seemingly coming from all sides...not good. From one side, there's the "It's just a word" (come on now), "They use it in their music..." - and that one not only is some nonsense whataboutism, but it's a disservice to John. He's not ignorant. I'm not sure anyone who isn't American has a complete grasp on its hideous history here, but he absolutely knows it's the wrong thing to say - that's why his brain made him say it. If he genuinely thought it, he wouldn't have said it, because that's not how coprolalia works. He doesn't go around saying things that are normal and right in his mind. It specifically makes you say the thing you least want to say, the thing you know is the most inappropriate under the circumstances. This wasn't ignorance - it's literally involuntary. It's happening against his will. I'm sure he would love it if his brain made him say "You're the most awesome person in the world!" That's just not how coprolalia rolls. And that leads to some truly appalling suggestions for him - that he be muzzled, that he NEVER go out in public for ANY reason, that he should be assaulted, and so on. Coprolalia is rare, it's not how most people are familiar with TS, and incredibly stigmatizing, and I'm not seeing a lot of "Well, people are learning!" coming out of this. I still see mostly people who believe he meant what he said, or that he had some control over it. He didn't.

I just feel like there were multiple victims in this situation, and each side is downplaying the other. On Twitter, that is. MBJ and DL are victims of having a horrible word shouted at them at a night that should have been special, and John is a victim of his own brain, as well as the insane amount of stigma surrounding coprolalia. John is also OCD, so there's just a lot going on with him. If you actually SEE him when he's ticcing, you can see him try to stop himself. He literally did attempt a kind of gag at one point in his life. He's tried a lot of treatments, he's often been the face of some newer and experimental options. It's just...there is no cure for this, not at the present time at any rate.
