college when my roomie and I had "loft" beds that were so high up, we had to army crawl into and out of bed. You couldn't sit even halfway up once you were in your bed. I have no interest in repeating that experience, although at least on the airline, there'd be no risk of rolling over and falling 6' onto an uncarpeted floor.
