Nelson Branco is reporting that the original gay character was supposed to be NOAH Newman played by actor Kevin Schmidt.
Noah's "coming out" was supposed to be a big storyline this summer. That's why Kevin returned to the show.
According to Nelson Branco, Noah's homosexuality was the "secret" that he shared with Eden and the reason they broke up in Paris. This also explains his bizarre stance on Shictor ("Let people live their own lives), Noah's frequent running off to NYC, etc.
Noah was definitely scheduled to come out as gay. Nelson elaborates on SOD's "Things We Know And Shouldn't Tell You" from this week's issue.
Kevin Schmidt even filmed a "coming out" speech at Cassie's grave site for the anniversary episode of her death, but CBS had it cut out from airing, and also scrapped the entire storyline of Noah being gay.
That's why actor Kevin Schmidt up and left again immediately. SONY dumped Noah's gay storyline for this summer.
Even though SONY scrapped Noah's homosexuality, the show is still considering going forward with a gay story using Fen Baldwin instead.
