Remember when Cane told Lily she was too young for him??? Yeah, I remember...and I also remember as soon as he thought she was dating someone else, he couldn't handle it and told her so. And suddenly they were a couple, having fun, learning everything about each other and getting closer. Their sweet and slow burgeoning relationship was soon hailed as Y&R "bringing romance back", and they were right.

Now, with Lily's busy modeling career and the sudden knowledge of her pregnancy, it was she who recalled Cane's initial hesitation with the two of them dating. Suddenly things seem to be happening at warp speed, shaking Lily to her core and putting fear and uncertainty in her heart.

This is where the story is really working for me, because not only are they realistically dealing with the age issue [Lily verbalizing whether or not she should have a child, when she herself still feels like one at 19-20, while Cane at 31 is all too thrilled with having a baby], but they are finally allowing Cane to verbalize his feelings for Lily, instead of merely showing it. Mind you, I loved seeing him show it, lol, but hearing him say it too is like manna from heaven for this Lane fan!

Anyhoo, this part of the story is character-driven angst at its best, IMO. Cane's been a steady, dependable, solid rock, next to Lily's fearful, unsure, and trembling flower. With hormones raging, mind racing, and having the eyes of a deer caught in headlights---Lily's already pressured life has spiraled that much out of control...and because of it, Cane's had to deal with her sometimes selfish and insensitive nature.

But you know, love is give/take...and sometimes there is more taking than giving. Right now Lily's is the one taking---Cane's love, shoulder to cry on, his understanding when she gets hyper and lashes out, lol, and his protective arms when she needs security---while Cane's doing most of the giving. Which really, it's ok--because like I said, it's realistic storytelling.

But also, especially this past Friday, we're seeing Cane's frustration boil over too...mainly, his frustration with Neil. This is where the story stinks IMO...because Neil, the so-called loving dad has become unbearable. Frankly, I'm surprised Cane hasn't belted the man yet...

I really wish Neil wasn't this much into their story, but I'm not surprised. Neil's always been a factor in Lily's life, he's her dad after all, but more and more he seems to be too much of a controlling dad. The good thing here though is that besides dealing with the age difference between Lily and Cane, and Lily becoming the woman she sees reflected in Cane's eyes...I think this story is about Lily finally cutting the strings from her father's "apron" so to speak.

Her dad's out of control behavior needs to be dealt with and I think Lily is the only one that can stop it. I mean, I'd love for Cane to beat the crap out of the man, lol, but that wouldn't really solve anything. Lily finally realizing and putting into check Neil's too-close-for-comfort fathering is the only way her growth into that woman "reflected in Cane's eyes" can be fully actualized.

In the meantime, will Cane be able to continue his patient and loving ways??? I think so, but I really felt for him when he proposed marriage to Lily, and she left him there standing with
tears in his eyes and lips quivering. Of course, I think Lily did the right thing here, because she's right---Cane wouldn't have asked her to marry him just yet if she weren't pregnant. But it was a loving gesture, not to mention beautiful ring he had offered, lol.

I don't know where Cane and Lily go from here, but for some reason I'm not really worried. I think these two have what it takes to survive anything, and whatever they go through, I'll be right here watching it all and cheering for them all the way.

;)
