News for the week of 09-Nov-2009
by Carol Banks Weber
Alicia Minshew’s (Kendall) baby girl, Willow Lenora, arrived before her due date. She was born on November 4th (she was expected out on November 26th, though), at 5 lbs., 2 oz. Willow’s birth caused AMC to scramble, because Minshew wasn’t supposed to take off on her maternity leave until filming ended on November 6th. The actress is currently on her maternity leave until whenever. No one knows how this affects Kendall’s story or if Minshew will continue on when the show films in L.A. next year.
Former Queer Eye For The Straight Guy Carson Kressley and his gig with New York & Company afforded the fashion guru an experience of a lifetime. This AMC soap fan (from childhood) was able to visit the AMC studios recently, and mingle with some AMC divas, including one of his idols, Susan Lucci (Erica) – who actually had appeared on Bravo’s Queer Eye… with her husband once. Kressley helps dress AMC’s characters the right way, using New York & Company’s fab wardrobe. He cited an affordability factor fans might be interested in. “What's really neat is that viewers can see their favorite characters on ALL MY CHILDREN and instead of their outfits being totally unobtainable, $9,000 Chanel things and this and that, they can actually see the wardrobe and think, 'That outfit that Randi stabbed Erica in, I want that!' and they could actually afford to get it! You can just go to New York & Company! And you can also [make it versatile] by getting a statement necklace or an amazing belt, or five of them, or some bright pumps or a statement bag from us!” –“Carson’s Crusade” by Mara Levinsky, Soap Opera Digest online
Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca) had hoped to go back to AMC once the soap started filming in L.A., closer to where the actress works and lives. But it was not to be. She announced this let-down to one and all last week.
This is weird. Cameron Mathison (Ryan) stars in his own soap opera as Dr. Dan. But the soap opera, Brighten Bay, is actually a Cheer detergent ad campaign. The campaign also features a sweepstakes prize, a free L.A. jaunt.
Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake) is not one to follow the rules or the script to the letter of the law. He doesn’t exactly rewrite his lines, but he shakes things up for sure, confirmed Chrishell Stause (Amanda) who has learned to go with his flow. “We’ve found a way to make it work beautifully, but it was definitely tricky, at first!” –Soap Opera Digest, November 10, 2009
Denise Vasi (Randi) knows there’s a huge difference between the dynamics amongst actresses vying for a role and actresses on a soap opera who already earned the role. In her experience, it’s the difference between cutthroat self-interest and genuine caring. For example, Vasi said that on any given audition, if she admired another actress’s boots and asked for the store, the other actress might lie or feign ignorance, just to get a leg up. But on AMC, Vasi marveled at the opposite. She brought up Chrishell Stause (Amanda), who doesn’t have a cold bone in her body. “If I go, ‘Chrishell, oh, my God, where did you get your hair colored?’ Or, ‘I love your boots, where did you get them? Can you pick some up for me? I’ll give you money back!’ – she would do it. It would never be a question.” Vasi found the air of kindness and support refreshing amongst her entire cast. –Soap Opera Digest, November 10, 2009
BethAnn Bonner (Kat; ex-Talia, OLTL) is gonna try to put her own indelible stamp on the new chick in Aidan and Kendall’s life. Bonner sees Kat as a tough biker chick full of piss and vinegar, which the outspoken actress likes. Bonner also got a kick out of working with Aiden Turner (Aidan) and Alicia Minshew (Kendall), instead of just schmoozing at industry events (which is how they know each other).

Head writer Charles Pratt Jr. dropped the ball bigtime on the Adam reveal. He could’ve used this as a life lesson for everybody and surprise viewers with Annie’s deep compassion. Instead, it’s just one long, unending waste.
And dude, it’s time to lose the faux-Liza. Just like she’s gonna lose custody of baby Stuart.
