News for the week of 14-Apr-2008
by Carol Banks Weber
Walt Willey (Jackson) and Susan Lucci (Erica) have rather sparkled like a rare gem in velvet of late with their post-prison break scenes. If you asked Willey, he’d probably credit much of that sparkle to his much-admired colleague Lucci. He said she’s forever lending authenticity, or that sparkle, to their scenes. Lucci will usually take care of the scenes by suggesting improvements that add realism – such as when the characters were stuck in a clothes closet and she thought it would be better if there were more clothes in there to heighten the claustrophobia – or remarks that reflect change – as when Erica walked into her renovated home and said, “You redid the room” outside the original lines.
Thorsten Kaye (Zach) agrees with the majority of us in the soap industry and fandom about how TPTB treated the departure of Sabine Singh (recast Greenlee) and the return of Rebecca Budig (original Greenlee) in the media campaign. He thought referring to Budig’s return as the return of the “real Greenlee” the height of “ridiculous,” “rude” and “unnecessary.” –Soap Opera Weekly
DJ and up-and-coming record label exec, Izzy Gold, intends to chronicle the pipes of three movers and shakers in a kind of demo CD debut. One of them is Leven Rambin (Lily/Ava), whom he viewed as Fergie-like in her track. Gold wants the tracks laid down, fine-tuned, and distributed in probably a compilation initially, and then maybe individual artist CDs. Gold also hoped to score himself and Rambin individual record deals with the big guns. –The New York Observer, April 3, 2008
Executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers wasn’t sure what Rambin’s future with AMC would be. Doesn’t look as if she’ll be heavily featured this May either.
What’s for sure is… Jake returns a changed man {snicker}, darker, haunted. Spirit Dixie will guide him back to his family and friends.
Billy Miller (Richie) made sure to hold onto his scripts from back when he first appeared on AMC and his character was named Wes. Part of the reason for that is the evolution of Wes into Richie, and how he, the directors and the writers worked to flesh the role out. It’s an evolution he can see also in the notations made throughout.
Laurence Lau (ex-Sam, OLTL) will make a special series of reappearances as Greg Nelson for May Sweeps (May 20th is his starting date). He hasn’t been back on AMC since he left in 1986. Greg used to be Jenny’s sweetheart, and a close pal of Jesse, Tad and Angie’s.
Renowned psychiatrist, TV commentator, author and columnist Dr. Gail Saltz M.D. will drop in as of April 14, and for a few episodes, to help treat Ryan’s emotional issues from his amnesia.
The R&B boy band, B5, will be on hand April 25th to try and release Erica from prison confines. They’ll join other protesting Erica fans. But they’ll be singing one of their songs, “Erica Cain” (Erica was in the music video), in homage to her.
