News for the week of 21-Jan-2013

by Carol Banks Weber

Prospect Park intends to bring AMC and OLTL back to its fans online with shorter, 30-minute episodes airing four times a week—all on a smaller budgetary scale. Debbi Morgan (ex-Angie; ex-Harmony, Y&R), for one, was surprised as hell to hear about the reboot. She assumed it was some crazy fan on a tear. She’s so grateful she was wrong. “This is such a historical thing, like when soaps made the move from radio to television. I guess there are all sorts of positives and negatives to being in on the ground floor, but I'm game! Will [these reboots] succeed? With soaps, it's all about the story and the characters,” she told TV Guide’s Michael Logan January 14. Vincent Irizarry (ex-David) also was incredulous about the reboot, especially considering the first time around, which he described ruefully. “We all thought we had jobs, and they pulled the rug out from under us like thieves in the night. [But] I totally understand the difficulties here. It's a Herculean effort to pull off this move to the Internet and it's all due to the fans. They stayed loud and tenacious and never gave up hope.” Both Morgan and Irizarry are fully on board for the online version of AMC.

Prospect Park hired Alison Goodman as its casting director for AMC and OLTL’s reboot on the Online Network. Plans for the reboot should kick off in earnest with filming next month in Stamford, CT.

Prospect Park wants former DOOL head writer Marlene McPherson to take over scribe duties with another writer for the online version of AMC. McPherson was eyeing the online OLTL head writer position but lost out to Susie Bedsow Horgan and Thom Racina. The rumor continues that Prospect Park is searching in earnest for that second AMC co-head writer.
