News for the week of 27-Jan-2014

by Carol Banks Weber

Because of a new ruling opening up categories for Prospect Park’s AMC and OLTL, the Daytime Emmys has become a real horserace. Watch out major networks. AMC and OLTL could sweep. The entry deadline passed on January 17 with a record of entries, reported David Michaels, NATAS senior executive director. “…and we've had a lot of great submissions from AMC and OLTL — in fact, we've set an extreme record for the number of entries this year. From the look of Prospect Park's submissions, I think they'll give the four network soaps a real run for their money when it comes to production values and the quality of the writing, directing and acting.” Further boosting the record numbers are the actors who normally don’t submit. They’ve changed their minds. The younger actor categories seem especially hot, added Michaels. The Daytime Emmys don’t have a TV home yet. But the awards will continue, with pre-noms announced March 3 and final nominees May 1. –TV Guide, Michael Logan, January 22, 2014 interview
