News for the week of 28-Apr-2008

by Carol Banks Weber

Last week, I read that AMC replaced Ambyr Childers with recast Colby (Brianne Moncrief) due to storyline reasons. Shortly following the SoapNet announcement, Childers herself came online to post a farewell in her blog, attributing the leave to “other opportunities that have come quickly into my life,” and made it sound like going was her decision, which she described as “heartfelt.”

Also last week, I wondered aloud as to how Zach could get his hands on a videotape of Ryan about to manhandle Greenlee back when they were married and she was carrying his child. Several readers responded, including lovely Melissa, with the answer: “So at the time, Kendall and Zack set it up that Greens would tell Ryan at the casino in one of his rooms, and then they sat and watched the entire thing via surveillance. Just when he was about to hit her, Kendall thought they should bust into the room and save Greens. I don't remember if they did or didn't, but that scene is from the surveillance tape.”

Cameron Mathison (Ryan) received the annual Linda Dano Heart Award recently at the 2008 HeartShare Gala. Several castmates were in attendance to cheer Mathison – who thanked his family – on and support the cause, including Melissa Claire Egan (Annie), Alicia Minshew (Kendall), Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake), Jill Larson (Opal) and Rebecca Budig (Greenlee). Mathison received the special award because of all the time he’s devoted to helping others, despite a hectic schedule working several jobs. One of the charities dear to his heart is Love Our Children USA, which he recently brought his two kids to in a New York-based fifth annual National Love Our Children Day.

Melissa Claire Egan (Annie) is open to anything – with or without Ryan – but she’s particularly loving her character’s manipulative side. She would like Annie to become even more of a contender, not just a nice girl pushover.

Ne-Yo, aka Shaffer C. Smith, provides wedding entertainment at Jesse and Angie’s nuptial celebration for May 21-22. Ne-Yo – who will sing “Closer” and “Stop This World” – is the Grammy-award-winning singer who was nabbed by Atlanta cops for speeding a couple months ago. Shortly after his guest performance, **SPOILER ALERT** bad guys will make off with bride Angie, while groom Jesse goes out of his mind.

More soap celebrities have been added to the 10th annual South West Florida Soapfest roster. Set to happen May 17-18 on Marco Island, the Soapfest will raise monies to help Eden Florida’s Eimerman Center for Autism, the Marco Art League and the Marco Island YMCA. The Soapfest will feature A Night of Stars, the Bartender Bash, Cruizin and Schmoozin with the Stars, celebrity golf, auctions and more. Representing AMC at the event: master of ceremonies Walt Willey (Jackson), Jacob Young (JR), Jeff Branson (ex-Jonathan) and Billy Miller (Richie). Info/tickets: (239) 394-4559.

Detroit Red Wings hockey fan Thorsten Kaye (Zach) has been blogging at NHL.com, under the Western Conference section, as a celebrity, for the playoffs.

Thorsten Kaye (Zach) may follow significant other Susan Haskell back to OLTL as Patrick, instead of re-signing his contract at AMC. Haskell announced on April 25th via her website that she will return to daytime as Marty.
