News for the week of 29-Apr-2013

by Carol Banks Weber

Jeff Kwatinetz’s production company, Prospect Park, selected three Northwestern undergrads to pen an upcoming May or June episode. Kwatinetz—a Northwestern grad himself—commissioned these three finalists of the school’s annual playwriting festival (named to honor creator Agnes Nixon) for the work. They’ll each receive $1,500 and professional writing credits for that episode.

Prospect Park/The Online Network (TOLN) sent three of its biggest AMC/OLTL stars to The View April 25 to talk up the upcoming online reboots. A clip revealed Vincent Irizarry’s (David) next on-screen move—five years after JR took a gun to a party. In the short clip, Dr. David Hayward is talking solemnly to a tombstone about exacting revenge after surviving five years in prison for a loved one. “It’s going to be very exciting,” Irizarry enthused. “Frankly for me, coming back to do this character again has been nothing short of wonderful. After a year and a half lapse and to get to do this character that I’ve loved so much, it’s truly one of the more rewarding characters I’ve had to play.” Thorsten Kaye (Zach) appeared in the first scene, making a phone call and making history. He’s glad just to be working. “And I took this job ‘cause no one would hire me, I don’t know what he’s [Irizarry] talking about [laughs].”

Hollywood Reporter’s Alex Ben Block April 26th sorted through the possible reasons, yays, and nays for the ad block.
