News for the week of 08-Dec-2014

by Carol Banks Weber

The 2015 Writers Guild nominees were announced last week, and includes GH and DOOL. The awards ceremony takes place February 14, 2015 at L.A.’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

Nancy Lee Grahn’s (Alexis) new online series, General Hospital Now, first airs next month. Go on ABC.com to watch.

Chad Duell (Michael) excuses his character’s rejection of the Corinthos family line and embrace of the Quartermaines in Rosemary A. Rossi’s December 22nd ABC Soaps In Depth interview. “In a way, he was always a Quartermaine at heart. He wasn’t this rowdy or bad kid or anything like a mob boss’ kid would be. They tried doing that with the character once before, but it was never justified in a way that would make Michael a totally different person. This is the first time that it’s justified taking him into a different arena.”

Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) will appear on HBO’s drama, True Detective.

Billy Miller (Jason; ex-Billy, Y&R) landed a TV role on USA Network’s series, Suits, which continues its run January 28, 2015, 10 p.m. EST. No idea when Miller shows up.

Casting wants a 20-something white actor to portray a new contract character for February. Must be good-looking, sexy, and charming for the bad boy role.

Nazanin Boniadi (ex-Nurse Leyla) landed the leading female role as Esther in the new movie update, Ben-Hur, set to show in theaters everywhere February 2016.

Gossip for the week of 08-Dec-2014

What if there is no Fluke, other than in Luke’s schizophrenic mind? This is a brilliant theory from SoapZone GH message board regular, Marty. Her December 5th post: “Granted, FLuke speaks with a different tone when confronting real Luke, but what if the result of Helena's brainwashing is to actually split Luke's mind into two personalities?

What if real Luke, as I'll refer to him here, sees himself as a separate entity, locked away while his bad self is running amuck in PC? We did have a scene where we had a couple of Francos on the bridge and the bad one jumped off, at least in his own mind, telling us that the bad side of Franco was gone. What if this is the same sort of thing where during all the mind-messing that was done with Luke in Miscaviage, he essentially split into two people mentally?

“Heck, I realize that I'm grasping at straws, but I really don't want this to be Bill Eckert and we've done masks to the point of ridiculousness. That leaves a clone, plastic surgery or Luke having a mental breakdown.

“Helena seems to be greatly enjoying herself, controlling Jake/Jason, and I'm sure that she'd be even more delighted at controlling Luke.”

I approve of this message. Yet, I am skeptical as to the current head writer’s ability to even think that deeply.
